Four athletes from India suspended
During a national-level competition last month, four Indian athletes have tested positive for banned substances.
An Indian newspaper named Rohit Kumar (javelin), Kirpal Singh (discus), and Harvinder Daggar (hammer) for testing positive for anabolic steroids and Anshu Rai (discus) for a stimulant.
From Articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com:
India’s National Anti-Doping Agency confirmed four athletes tested positive at the Federation Cup in the northern city of Patiala from April 21-23 but refused to name the athletes pending B sample tests.
It confirmed three athletes who tested positive for anabolic steroids were given provisional suspensions but there had been no decision on the fourth athlete.
The fourth athlete would face the hearing panel of NADA.

Clemens case’s key witness may testify
An important witness in the federal perjury trial of former baseball ace Roger Clemens could testify, according to a prosecutor.
Brian McNamee, Clemens’ former personal trainer, could testify, Prosecutor Steven Durham told U.S. District Court Judge Reggie Walton.
From Reuters.com:
McNamee’s claims that Clemens, 49, used anabolic steroids and human growth hormone during his 24-year career are at the center of the government’s charges that the pitcher lied to Congress about drug use.
Durham has alleged that McNamee injected Clemens with anabolic steroids in 1998, 2000 and 2001 and with human growth hormone in 2001.
Clemens has denied allegations he used performance-enhancing drugs. His defense attorneys have called McNamee a liar.
Former Internal Revenue Service agent Jeff Novitsky, who had investigated McNamee as part of a probe into performance-enhancing drugs, testified on Thursday about evidence obtained during the investigation.
Clemens is among one of the biggest baseball stars linked to alleged drug use.

Drug testing should be abolished by MMA community
UFC fighter Sean McCorkle recently remarked the MMA community should level the playing field by doing away with testing for drugs.
This remark from McCorkle, known for his blunt honesty, came after Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal tested positive for steroids and a screening policy was announced by the UFC.
From Mmafighting.com:
“What you end up with is a situation of where the guys who are beating the test, where the guys who can afford to get a doctor to prescribe whatever they want, where the guys who have access to stuff, they have an unfair advantage already,” he said on Tuesday’s edition of The MMA Hour. “I think we’d be pretty naive to think that every person who’s ever taken anything was caught. So I think, to me, in all professional sports, I say, let guys do whatever they want to do and be done with it. I don’t think anybody’s going to make or break their career based on steroids unless you’re talking about longevity, because to my understanding, the majority of them are used for recovery from injury.”
“There’s stuff at [nutrition store] GNC that will make you pee hot for a PED, and it’s not necessarily something that’s going to enhance your performance at all,” McCorkle said. “It’s just something that’s banned.”

NBA deal to include offseason drug testing plan
Players from the NBA, for the first time, have given their consent to offseason testing for performance enhancing drugs.
The league, in the past, did not tested players during its July-September offseason.
From Guardian.co.uk:
The memo was less clear about testing for human growth hormone, saying only that a committee would study the “possibility of an HGH testing program.” NBA spokesman Mike Bass, however, insisted that both sides agreed to HGH blood testing, subject to the process being validated by a “neutral committee of experts.” It wasn’t immediately clear who would be on that panel.
Major League Baseball and its players recently agreed to start HGH testing in spring training. The National Football League’s new labor contract also included a provision for HGH testing as soon as this season but only once the players’ union approves the process. That hasn’t happened, in part because the union says it needs more information about the test.
NBA players will be tested up to twice during the offseason for steroids and performance enhancing drugs beginning in the 2012-13 season, as per a memo.

Straight from the victim of frequent drug testing
Jose Bautista, the Toronto Blue Jays slugger, has become a habitual victim of drug testing procedures used by the MLB.
The tests for evaluating presence drugs under the name of random drug testing policy conducted by the Major League Baseball are not so random, Bautista said.
From Sportsgrid.com:
Speaking at a recent banquet event in the Dominican Republic, however, Bautista told the attendees that there’s no reason for anyone to be suspicious of his Hulk-like outbreak over the past two seasons. Since, after all, he has been “randomly” tested 16 times for performance enhancing drugs. Yes, that’s 16 times in the course of two years.
Considering that over the previous two seasons he had only been tested three total times, to go along with his 28 home runs in 700-plus at-bats, it certainly seems like said tests may not be so “random.” But then again, that’s the current nature of the game. Everyone is guilty until proven innocent… 20-some-odd times over, and over again. It probably would take another 50 or so negative tests in order for the critics to be quieted down.
The two-time MLB Home Run Champion and newest member of the 50 HR Club was tested sixteen times in two years.

Axis Labs LLC accused by federal prosecutors
Axis Labs LLC was sentenced to probation of one year in connection with a mail fraud case, in addition to a fine of $50,000, and was ordered to forfeit $107,000.
Axis Labs was accused by federal prosecutors of distribution of anabolic steroids masquerading as a weight loss supplement.
From Naturalproductsinsider.com:
In September 2011, FDA said Axis was charged with one count of mail fraud in connection to the illegal distribution of a product called “Monster Caps,” which contained synthetic anabolic steroids. FDA said Axis Labs engaged in the business of manufacturing, labeling, shipping and selling Monster Caps to enable weight loss and increase muscle mass. The agency said the product falsely purported to be a dietary supplement and therefore could be distributed and dispensed without prior approval from FDA.
However, Monster Caps contained anabolic steroids, or similar synthetic compounds, according to FDA tests. Because Axis Labs intended these products to affect the structure and function of the human body, they were considered drugs regulated by United States Code.
DCD LLC and R&D Holdings were also fined for dealing in sale of adulterated supplements that contained anabolic steroids.
